When Olly Silver joined the Ministry of Work in September last year, he was in the middle of a major business transition. Fast forward a few months, and he has carved out a niche in the world of outbound systems, helping B2B companies get in front of their ideal customers using AI and innovative tools.
We caught up with Olly to hear more about his journey, the challenges he’s overcome, and his ambitious plans for the future of SaaSology.
The Birth of SaaSology: From SaaS Veteran to Founder
With over a decade in SaaS (Software as a Service), Olly had built a solid career, rising from a marketing executive to a marketing director. But as he watched the company he was working for struggle with growth despite generating strong pipeline activity, he started considering his next move.
“My wife, who’s also a Ministry of Work member, had been running her agency successfully for a few years. That really opened my eyes to what was possible,” Olly explains.
At the start of 2024, when his previous company faced financial struggles, Olly found himself at a crossroads: look for another job or take the plunge and start his own venture. And so, SaaSology was born—a business that initially offered broad growth marketing services before narrowing down to a laser-focused outbound growth engine.
Finding Focus: From Fractional CMO to Scalable Business
Like many founders, Olly initially found himself saying ‘yes’ to too many different things. He was offering fractional CMO services, managing paid media campaigns, and building outbound systems—all at the same time. But he quickly realised that spreading himself too thin wasn’t sustainable.
“I didn’t want to just be a freelancer—I wanted to scale this into a real business,” he says. The breakthrough came when he noticed a common trend among his clients: they all needed a high-performing outbound system. That’s when he made the decision to niche down and focus purely on outbound strategy, automation, and execution.
This shift has not only given him clarity but also made the business more scalable.
“Now, instead of delivering multiple bespoke services, I have a repeatable system that I can build a team around.”
Cracking the Code on Outbound Success
Outbound marketing often gets a bad reputation, but Olly is determined to change that. “There are a lot of players in the space, but that doesn’t mean they’re doing it well,” he says. His approach focuses on quality over quantity, using AI to hyper-personalise outreach and leveraging best practices to ensure high deliverability rates.
“If you don’t get in the inbox, it doesn’t matter how good your message is,” Olly explains. His process involves setting up secondary domains, warming up email accounts, and maintaining email-sending behaviour that mimics human activity—ensuring messages actually land in front of the right people.
He also goes a step further with strategies like AI-powered personalised video outreach. “It’s all about standing out and sparking curiosity,” he adds. “Businesses and relationships are built on conversations, and our job is to start those conversations in a way that feels natural and valuable.”
The Challenges of Building a Business
For Olly, one of the biggest challenges has been transitioning from a hands-on marketer to a business owner. “The real goal is to move from working in the business to working on the business,” he says.
Sales, for example, is something he enjoys, but it’s also time-consuming. That’s why his focus now is on building processes and systems so that the business can run without him being involved in every single client engagement. “I want to grow the team and eventually step back into more of a strategic role.”
Big Wins and Looking Ahead
Olly’s proudest moment so far? Taking SaaSology from zero to over £10K in monthly revenue within just two and a half months. “That was a big moment, but at the time, I was still doing too many things,” he admits.
Now, with a clear focus and scalable model, SaaSology is growing fast. “I’m having my best month ever since focusing on one service,” he says. Looking ahead, his ambition is to build a team and solidify SaaSology as the go-to outbound engine for SaaS businesses looking to scale.
For anyone thinking about taking the leap into entrepreneurship, Olly’s advice is simple: “Find a problem, solve it well, and build repeatable systems.”
“That’s how you go from a solo operator to a real business.”
With his sharp focus, data-driven approach, and relentless drive, Olly Silver is well on his way to doing just that.
